Hawthorne Neighborhood

The Hawthorne neighborhood, part of Fargo’s original townsite, is known for its vibrant mix of housing types that radiate out from the downtown commercial area and Island Park. It is bordered by the Red River to the east, providing residents with access to the riverside trail and several parks. The Hawthorne Neighborhood Association, along with the active Hawthorne PTA, plays a significant role in maintaining the community’s spirit. Historic 8th Street, renowned for its distinctive street lighting, trees, and architecture, runs through the heart of the neighborhood, forming the core of the National Register Southside Historic District. Named after Hawthorne Elementary School, located at 6th Street and 8th Avenue South, this neighborhood offers a blend of history, green space, and community involvement.
